HABITAT DESCRIPTION:
According to Palmer and Braswell (1995) the green anole occurs in the sandhills, throughout the coastal plain generally south of Albemarle Sound; in the eastern and southern portions of the piedmont, and in most of the mountains they are generally absent.

Generally prefers disturbed areas with an abundance of shrubbery and sunlight (Martof et al 1980). Palmer and Braswell (1995) list flatwoods, deciduous forest, sandy pine and scrub oak forests, maritime scrub, wooded parks and residential lots, along woodland margins, pococins, and around buildings and ruderal environments.

NATURE SERVE GLOBAL HABITAT COMMENTS:

Occupies a wide variety of habitats, commonly in edge situations. Mostly arboreal. Climbs on tree trunks, shrubs, vines, and various other plants; also fence posts and walls of buildings. Sleeps in vegetation at night. Seeks cover in cold weather but does not go deep underground (Mount 1975). Eggs are buried in moist soil, sphagnum, leaf litter, rotting wood, under rocks and debris.
